Free weekend? Saturdays Off The 405, Kickstarter Film Fest and Mario Kart
Brace yourselves, people. It's going to be hot, again. Lucky for us, we can take our minds of the brutal temps with popsicles in Highland Park, free yoga in Manhattan Beach and a glimpse of the questionable carpool DeVille (more on this later).
Here's everything you need to know:
1. Voices of LA
It's not too late to catch a performance from the roving cross-cultural festival, Voices of L.A. Many of its summer artist mash-ups will perform during a daylong culmination Sunday. Expect Korean music, Persian dance, an origami workshop, demonstrations with local chefs and so much more. Plus, you'll get a glimpse of the renovated and historic campus of Wilshire Boulevard Temple in Koreatown. Read about the artists here.

Beer candles. Hanging planters. Trendy rugs. Tie-dye bags. Get that holiday shopping done early or just treat yourself to something fab (like these stud claws or this unicorn ring). Eastside Handmade is an outdoor pop-up in Highland Park hosted by the vintage store Shopclass. The market features all of these Eastside makers and artisans.

3. Saturdays Off The 405
Kan Wakan's music video, "Forever Found"
The L.A. heat is unbearable, but at least it cools down at night. That's why we're making our way to the Getty Center Saturday evening for its outdoor music series. This week's performance will feature L.A. band Kan Wakan, whose music is a "contemporary amalgam of psychedelic soul, electronica, and orchestral pop." Grab a couple drinks from the cash bar as you view new music and sights of the city. Pro tip: You can order food at the Garden Terrace Cafe through 8:30 p.m.
When: 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday
Where: Getty Center's Museum Courtyard | MAP
Price: Free
4. Kickstarter Film Fest
It comes as no surprise that there are more Kickstarter creators in Los Angeles than anywhere else in the world. To honor our city of imaginative minds, Kickstarter is throwing us a party. Highlights include L.A. creators, who Kickstarted projects like Melon Headband, Kung Fury, Los Angeles Makerspace, Peddler's Creamery — and my very favorite, the hot tub DeVille. Stop by and get inspired!
When: 6 to 11 p.m. Friday
Where: The Autry at Griffith Park | MAP
Price: Free
5. It's cool at the L.A. Zoo
(Photo: L.A. Zoo)
Keep the kids cool at the L.A. Zoo Saturday. Chill out with special crafts and art projects, a giant inflatable slide and harbor seal feedings. Plus, firefighters will be on hand with firehose sprays. Even the animals will get frozen goodies. Lions will eat “meatsicles" and orangutans will enjoy “fruitsicles." Meanwhile, the elephants will be eating “trashsicles,” which are giant blocks of frozen fruit and veggies prepared in 33-gallon trash cans.
