Weekend Traffic: Sunset 'Rampture' starts; Winchester Road, Alondra Blvd to close (maps)

Plenty of closures this weekend, folks – from  Los Angeles to Temecula. 

405 north off-ramp to Sunset Boulevard closes for 120 days

If there is one closure commuters to and from L.A. should know about, then it's this: The Sunset Boulevard off-ramp from the northbound 405 will be closed for 120 days starting Aug. 3.

Caltrans suggests commuters use the following detours:

I-5 closed in both directions for bridge work

The northbound and southbound 5 will be closed on Friday and Saturday nights in Orange County, so any late-night travelers should plan for heavy traffic.

Crews are scheduled to demolish the southern portion of the Ortega Highway (74) overpass. Northbound lane closures will begin at Camino Capistrano, and traffic will be directed to exit at the 74 off-ramp, immediately re-entering at the on-ramp from the 74. Southbound lane closures will begin at Junipero Serra, with traffic exiting and re-entering at the 74 ramps in the same manner. The closures are scheduled for 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. Friday and Saturday. 

Alondra Boulevard and Freeway Drive 

Caltrans will fully close the Alondra Boulevard/Freeway Drive intersection (see photo above), starting Friday at 8 a.m. The closure will be in place until February 2014. 

Keep in mind that Alondra Blvd., between Freeway Dr. and Marquardt Ave., is also closed until mid/late 2014. And... the northbound 5 on-ramp from Alondra Blvd. is permanently closed.

Winchester Road will be closed for construction

Winchester Road will be closed for construction starting Friday and ending Monday. The off-ramp from the southbound 15 will be closed at 11 p.m. Friday and reopened 4 a.m. Monday.  
During this period, southbound I-15 may be reduced to three lanes. 

Drivers should use alternate routes such as Murrieta Hot Springs Road to Jefferson Avenue.
